Don't Worry, Be Happy About Electronics

Electronics is a dizzying field in which to look around, and even worse in which to try shopping.  But I have learned and found some pretty cool stuff.  It hasn't been long since I got my first look at Blu-ray video, and I was really impressed!  Sometimes things really looked 3D, and other times it seemed like I was looking through a window at what was in the movie, rather than at an image.  And for the money, my money is on LG!  They have a Home Theater System that streams from the internet, connects to iPad and iPod, and even makes old DVD's look better than ever.  The one in the picture is my favorite.  If all you need is a player, this one is very nice!

I've always been a camera and photography lover, and the digital age has been progressing nicely, hasn't it?  This nice Canon resolves at 14.1 megapixels, has a 14X wide angle optical image stabilized zoom, and a three inch screen.  What does all that mean?  You can take WAY good pictures!

I'll finish with video gaming.  If you read the features on this thing, you will be as impressed as I am with its COOLNESS.  Xbox 360 is the best thing I have ever seen.  Lately video gaming has been immensely fun for me, and the right equipment makes all the difference.

KINDLE: Lotsa Reasons EVERYBODY's Getting THIS One

I have been amazed by technology a lot over the past few years, but this one takes the cake.  Kindle has been chosen by the marketplace at large -- people just like you and me -- as the best wireless reading device, outselling all others combined..  Until I saw this short video about it, I had no idea how dadgum POWERFUL this thing is!  Please watch it real quick.  You'll be amazed, too.  And please bookmark this page in case you ever decide later to get one.

Not just books: if you can read it on paper, you can read it on your Kindle.

Just like TV's, CD Players, computers, and cell phones, there will soon be several in every family.  Imagine your children carrying around an entire library, all their textbooks, and all the fun stuff they will ever want to read, in a device smaller and thinner than a spiral stenographer's notebook.  And anyone can get scores of classics to read FREE.  I honestly believe that my kids would have read many more classics, and more of everything, had this device been available to them in their younger years.

Want to be "green?"  No paper.

For us old folks, there is a large 9.7-inch-display model that just makes it easier on us.  I don't need my reading glasses, which I hate to carry around -- I'm still homophobic about things that look like a purse.  But this model is actually a good choice for anyone, because there is less scrolling for graphic-rich material.

Coolest Toys, Games & Fun Stuff - Have Some FUN!

Research can be so much FUN!  Today it took me to my only mentor in life philosophy, Homer Simpson.  This memorial to him WILL be on my desk someday, because of its infinite wisdom in so few words.  Classy pewter.  And here are some others like this one.

One of the absolute coolest things I ever did in my whole life was a hobby until I got too cool for it in High School.  I'm no longer cool at all, so I may just go back to it: Model rocketry.  This is one of the best sets I found to combine ease for newbies, exciting coolness, and great price. It is manufactured by the same company whose products I always chose when I was avid some 40 years ago.  Spring is almost here, and looking forward to your own launch is tres cool!

Finally, I love family/friend game night, but I also love classy-looking furnishings for my home, and hate the game closet with sixteen game boxes mashed together in various stages of deterioration.  Gatogi has created a dream come true for us called The Library Collection, classic games in beautiful wooden boxes that stack admirably on the bookshelf.  Get the whole set or one at a time -- I don't care which way you do it!

Shopping For Cubes

My friend Kat, an early childhood professional and mom, says that getting Rory's Story Cubes for her kids was the best few dollars she ever spent!  As somewhat of a student of child development, I can honestly say that the more creative stimulation (and especially parental praise for the creations) a child can get, the better.  Thanks, Kat!

So maybe this should be a "cubes post?"  How about the old standby, drive-ya-nuts Rubik's Cube?  Still crazy after all these years, and an important element in one of my favorite movies (makes me cry every daggone time), The Pursuit Of Happyness.  (Psst . . . it's out on Blu-ray)

Hmmm, cubes . . . cubes . . . CuBANS!  You can't buy the cigars from Cuba in the U.S., but how 'bout some really great men's cologne that LOOKS like Cuban cigars?  I really like some of their scents.  I think this is a VERY cool gift for any man-of-the-world in your life - even if it's yourself.

And while I'm on men's gifts, I couldn't resist these: A tank top for an old f*rt like me; a pocket projector to turn your ipod (and other devices) images into a big-screen projection for all to see; and a really great Braun electric shaver that is the highest rated by Consumer Reports.

So . . . let us digress from men's gifts and get back to the most perfect of geometric shapes, the cube.  This one is extremely cool, a puzzle/game that is "the future of puzzles, dual brain hemisphere stimulation," much more green and natural than video games, and good for "stress relief" and "boredom busting."

How cool.

My Birthday Presents, and A GREAT Country CD

DREAM KNIVES

I had a knock-off swiss-army "STYLE" knife that fell apart, so two new and authentic ones appeared on my birthday wish list this year.  The real ones, made by VICTORINOX, have an UNLIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY, covering any and all damage.  To me the following were the best two models for my purposes, but there are many models being sold on Amazon, and at the best prices I could find anywhere.  I really did my homework on this one!  The coolest knives: (1) a tiny one with nearly everything I ever routinely need and that goes everywhere with me is the Victorinox Swiss Army Rambler Pocket Knife  It's riding in my pocket, and I cannot WAIT to use it for the first time!  Li'l booger arrived SHARP!  You can find it in several colors.  (2) I haven't ordered it yet, but I'm getting another one that is on the BIG side and has TWENTY THREE different tools in it -- for when I know I'm going to be, or could be, tooling around.  It's the Victorinox Swiss Army Swiss Champ Pocket Knife (Red) .  I decided that such a fine, lifetime set-of-tools-in-one needs a fine leather belt pouch, too.  Very excited!  You can also get this model in various styles, including a very cool Limited Edition Hardwood model.  I'm putting some pictures of these on this page for ya, but go check them out!  These are really the best prices I could find.

By the way, VICTORINOX has a whole lot of other really cool stuff, like luggage and watches.  One of my passions is kitchen ware, and their cutlery looks awesome.


GREAT COUNTRY CD -- Link At Left

My friend Duane turned me on to this.  We go way back to being in a band together, making an album in 1975, and all sorts of stuff.  He saw me through a song of mine winning me a gold and platinum record!  He's a GREAT songwriter and really appreciates the best in music.  I trust his taste.  I love this CD.
